Barnwell School District 45 is Hiring an Assistant Superintendent Near Barnwell, SC

POSITION: Assistant Superintendent, open until filled

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a Master’s degree and an Education Specialist (Ed. S.) degree
  • Possess a valid South Carolina Superintendent certification with the South Carolina Department of Education 
  • Demonstrated successful administrative leadership at the school-level or district-level for a minimum of 5 years

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Superintendent works alongside the Superintendent to oversee the operation of the school district. This includes, but is not limited to, various programs, policy and procedure, special projects, department operations, business services and technology. The Assistant Superintendent needs to have strong leadership, administrative, and team-building skills. Strong interpersonal communication skills are also essential. This position reports directly to the Superintendent.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Help establish a vision, expect continuous improvement, and develop a focused plan for achieving district goals.
  • Assist the Superintendent in overseeing the operation of the school district.
  • Works with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staffs to build
  • Assist in setting vision, setting priorities, and develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the school district.
  • Assists principals and district level administrators in the development of
  • leadership skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with school personnel, and engage the external community.
  • Assist in involving multiple stakeholders to make informed decisions, communicate processes, and celebrate accomplishments. 
  • Establish expectations for collaboration, compliance with district policy and procedures, and quality continuous improvement.
  • Works effectively with parents to address needs and concerns.
  • Communicates and provides direction for all building-level staff to ensure quality performance at all levels.
  • Provides leadership for positive conflict resolution for schools, parents, student, and staff.
  • Provides leadership in the development, writing, and implementation of policies and procedures for the school district.
  • Helps ensure that the district operations are in compliance with federal, state and local requirements and reflect the best thinking and practices of educators and professionals in their respective fields.
  • Oversees the development of the accreditation of the school district.
  • Organizes and leads committees as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Supervises and/or completes reports to the State Department of Education.
  • Attends meetings of K-12 principals, Superintendent’s Cabinet, District Leadership Team, and any other as delegated by the Superintendent.
  • Assists the Superintendent in overseeing the development and distribution of building and department budgets and manage expenditures as requested.
  • Participates as needed and/or requested in the selection and orientation of principals and other staff.
  • Serves as liaison to various community, university, and other school district projects and groups within the county as needed.
  • Seeks outside resources and recognitions for the school district by supporting staff that apply for grants and awards.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Department in the employment, dismissal, reassignment, and periodic evaluation of classified personnel, with recommendations for action directed to the Superintendent.
  • Assumes such other responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
